Islamic Inheritance at a Glance
Sons and Daughters
A son inherits twice the share of a daughter. If a father leaves 3 Kanaal to one son and one daughter, the son receives 2 Kanaal and the daughter 1 Kanaal.
Only Daughters, No Sons
If the deceased leaves two or more daughters and no sons, the daughters together inherit two-thirds of the estate, divided equally among them. A single daughter alone receives one-half.
Spouse's Share
A wife receives one-eighth of the estate when children are present, and one-quarter when there are none. A husband receives one-quarter when children are present, and one-half when there are none.
Parents' Share
Each parent receives one-sixth of the estate when the deceased has children. If there are no children, the mother receives one-third and the father inherits the remainder after other fixed shares are paid.
The Residual (Asabat)
After all fixed shares are distributed, any remainder passes to the closest male agnate relative, known as the Asabat. Sons are the first in this line, followed by the father, brothers, and paternal uncles.
